The Heep debut can be found on Vertigo from 1970 - but it is a wee bit expensive. perhaps you'd like to get close to the 1970 copies - but without taking out a mortgage! When Gerry Bron set up the Bronze label in 1971 this title would have been one of the first titles reissued. These copies are high quality like the Vertigo copies - and are just 1 year from the original masters - and well worth further investigation. You can also spot [easily] from the labels that this is an early copy. The format 'stereo' is over on the right and the Bron credit, at the foot, is quite cramped - distribution is with Island. Later they would stick stereo on the left and space out the credit more evenly. Matrix A2/B2. The stampers are 1-GR/1-GR. so, the audio is coming from that first Bronze master. These early copies were pre-oil crisis and pressed on solid vinyl. The vinyl comes housed in a solid card gatefold cover with the left panel glued shut - hence it forms a nice solid front panel. Note that down in the bottom left corner of the interior the distribution deal is with Island. A year or two later the distribution changed to EMI. And also there's no record company logo on the front - meaning that iconic image is relatively unfettered. There's also the generic white inner. So, we're 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection expect nothing more than a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with just a couple of deviations. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. By and large a clean player with power and authority, but not exclusively. The quieter tracks are exhibiting a bit of light static - e.g. Melinda. Nothing invasive - they just won't play quite as clean as the rest of the LP. This copy will guarantee you a great rendition.
Cover (Vg+) Very nice looking and much better preserved than most 1971 copies will be looking like. Lovely deep blacks and no signs of fading. Very little surface wear or creasing on the front - just one surface scratch [bottom left]. Just a touch of handling on the rear. The interior looks pretty much perfect. There's a bit of edge wear in places - looks like someone's inked over some of the wear [they've made an 'ok' job of it]. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. No splits.
