Uriah Heep "The Magician's Birthday"
This is a US vinyl pressing on Mercury 1-652 from 1972. This is a test pressing. This was their fifth album. It comes in a plain white cover. On the front cover is hand written : "Michael, This is the test press for the new Uriah Heep, Play it Loud, Diz". The labels are all white with no logo. It says "Mercury Sound Studios : Reference Lacquer.' Then "Special Advance Copy", the artist, album title and song titles are typed out by hand.
This was their best album !! Yes, you should play it loud !!!!
The matrix numbers are machine stamped : Side A : SRM-1-652A-CT2 and Side B : SRM-1-652B-CT2 .
The songs are : Sunrise, Spider Woman, Blind Eye, Echoes In The Dark, Rain, Sweet Lorraine, Tales, and The Magician's Birthday.
Why are test pressing so rare ?? A test pressing is the very first pressing of a record. It's made so that the artist, producer, engineer, and record company executives can approve the record. They are pressed in extremely limited numbers ( like 5 to 10 ) and are never repressed. They are sent out to selected people before the cover and labels have been printed.
Overall Condition : Cover : M- / Record : VG+
The cover is mint minus. There are no seam splits and there is no ring wear. There is writing on the front cover. The back cover is stamped in gold : 'Demonstration Not For Sale'. The vinyl looks VG+ and it plays near mint. There are several minor handling marks, but no scratches. There is light static only at the beginnings of each side. The labels have lots of light spindle marks.
I will package this record between two pieces of 1/2 inch thick cardboard. ( It's so thick that you will save it and use again. ) It will weigh 21 ounces ( 1 pound, 5 ounces ) when ready to ship. You can figure out your own postage costs for US Priority or Media Mail. It will be sent by First Class Mail International to overseas buyers. ( Buyers from Italy will assume all risks for shipping to their country) I will send it as soon as you pay ( same day of before 2 PM and next day if after 2 PM ) I will combine postage if you win more than one record. This record is from a no smoking and no pets home.
