Description

An original 1st issue of VERY EAVY on UK Vertigo from 1970. Matrix 1/1. Note that the Vertigo label is correct for 1st issue whilst charting - you must have the LARGE Swirl above the spindle whole with the 'Vertigo' logo appearing beneath the spindle whole. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original and very 1st issue gatefold with the 'Vertigo' logo exhibiting on the front. Worth noting the earlier covers were printed on nice solid card [unlike the later ones]. We also have the correct and original Vertigo inner sleeve date code to 1970. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+) In very nice condition and has only seen light to moderate use. Under close inspection expect a few very light marks per side. There's a small semi-feelable mark at the outset of side 2 - which does sound please see detail.  A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly NEAREXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. This is the 1st issue on Vertigo and it doesn't take long to figure out why folks hold out for them...THIS is how the debut record should be heard. Heavy as hell, but a pressing which will deliver all the intricacies and finer nuances of Heep too. By and large a nice clean player - you can crank it right up and it will keep delivering clean audio. I only really detected any consistent background in the very lowkey acoustic track 'Melinda' [it still plays better than you typically find]. This track is extremely hard to find playing properly clean. Nothing unpalatable at all - it just won't play quite as clean as it does in other sectors. The only real issue is at the start of 'Dreammare'. The mark mentioned above causes 8-9 ticks/clicks in the intro. As the main riffing of the track comes in it clears out pretty quick. Oh, And one click midway through Melinda. Other than that you've got yourself a well preserved 1st issue with some kick-ass-audio.
Cover (Ex-) A nice clean front without much creasing. Look carefully into David's mouth and you should pick out a couple of scuff marks. No big deal, I'd argue, given the overall aesthetic/composition. The rear is equally good with just some light stress creases at the edges. The interior looks great with clean smooth surfaces. One small wear patch observable at the top of the right panel. Edge wear is mostly light, but there is a split in the middle of the top of the right panels edge. I have tape repaired internally so it is merely a minor cosmetic issue, now. The spine looks fine with text more or less all legible. Expect just a bit of light wear. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy card employed in manufacture.
Inner (Vg+) Not much sign of ageing. Bag present. No spits. But a couple of tears at the die-cut circle [repaired].
