JOE HENDERSON (Featuring Alice Coltrane): The Elements. Used vintage LP in Very Good+/Very Good+ condition. Milestone Recs. LP Catalog # M-9053; 1974. FREE SHIPPING!
Condition: LP has minor aesthetic flaws on surface which don’t affect sound. I have played this record no more than twice in its 50+ years of existence. This is not a reflection on quality of the contents, but reflects my habit of acquiring new items so rapidly. The jacket is in excellent condition, no real wrinkles or corner crushes. The paper (cardboard technically) around the borders, front and back, is a bit wrinkled. This is not the result of any neglect on my part. Blame it on aging or high humidity or on Milestone Records. There is a handwritten price code in blue ink at lower right corner of jacket back, doubtless from a Sam Goody store in NYC where I purchased this item.
Behind the Music: This concept album is a meditation on the Four Primary Elements as recognized in Classical Greek Science/Philosophy: Fire, Air, Water, Earth. Mr. Henderson is joined by Alice Coltrane on piano, harp, tamboura & harmonium; Michael White on violin; the superb bassist Charlie Haden; Kenneth Nash and several other percussionists. Sessions recorded October 1973. My initial asking price is based on what I found listed on Discogs in early April 2026. I don’t care what eBay recommends I ask. The statistics at Discogs indicate this LP selling at a median price of $198 (!!), with far more users of that service indicating they want it than that they own a copy. And there are but six copies listed for sale there! You get free shipping if you cough up $100 or more.
