Description

Washington Phillips (vocal + dolceola):  I've Got the Key to the Kingdom / A Mother's Last Word to her Daughter.  Columbia 14511, V- condition; recorded in Dallas, late 1929.  This record has average wear in most grooves and a bit of remaining gloss.  The faint white line on both sides looks like grease pencil or paint, and is inaudible.  However, there are numerous light scratches which produce clicks and pops throughout, moreso on "Kingdom" where it sometimes sounds like static.  The higher the playback volume, the noisier it sounds.  BTW, the dolceola (sometimes spelt "dulceola") is a hand-held instrument, sort of a cross between a piano and an autoharp.  The advert shown in scan #3 is FYI and not included with the record.
