V/A The Unexpurgated Folk Songs Of Men LP US 196x (Raglan) EX/VG+
INFORMATION: Reissue of notorious naughty folk album which was recorded in 1959, & released the following year. This pressing is supposedly from some time in the 1960s. Featured, but not credited are Lightnin' Hopkins, Buster Pickens, & Mance Lipscomb, among others...
The white-labeled, first edition of this notorious record was issued in a generic white cover without any printing whatsoever. This is the red-labeled repress from Raglan, complete with printed LP jacket.
It is likely that Arhoolie Records was behind the original release (and perhaps this one as well), as Smithsonian/Folkways catalogs the LP as "Arhoolie LP 4006."
On both this red-label version from Raglan and the white-label original pressing, song titles are listed on the disc labels, but none of the many performers are credited anywhere on the release.
Some of the performers have been ostensibly identified by researchers: tracks B4 and B10 are attributed to Mance Lipscomb, tracks B5 and B11 to Buster Pickens, and track B12 to Lightnin' Hopkins.
CONDITION: Heavy duty gatefold pasteboard (tip-on) sleeve is in really nice condition, with minimal wear. Vinyl has some light marks. Spiders on spindle hole.
