An ultra-rare 1974 sci-fi-themed early electronic LP, one of the hardest to find of all Folkways releases. An obscure Czech composer Nelhybel offers up 21 brief electronic tracks recorded in 1959 (but never released until this lp), meant to convey atmospheric spaciness and aid in mind-expanding journeys before the term "psychedelic" was even on the radar of most listeners. From the notes: "Ingenious use of echo, artificial reverberation and electronic alterations gives the music in this category a weird, spooky futuristic, 'out of this world' quality, well-suited to super-natural happenings of any kind. Piano, drums, and electronic instruments are used to achieve the strange atmosphere and spatial sound." This actually seems to be a kind of library LP (Nelhybel became somewhat known for his contributions to production library music albums), with mood descriptions provided for each track like "weird drum sound; cosmic mirage in the making", "unearthly explosions; slow, suspenseful, mystifying sounds", "weird melodic strains with heavy rhythm chords underneath; strangely dramatic", etc. Track names are: Strange Eruptions; Nebulae; Cosmic Cycle; Space Meteors; Star Clusters; Song of the Spheres; Cosmic Twilight; Mars Craters; Cosmic Fright; Space Ship; Pulse of the Universe; Sun Lava; Ionosphere; Dark Cosmic Clouds; Cosmic Dawn; Interplanetary Journey; Voices from Outer Space; Vibrations in Outer Space; Cosmic Breath; Space Spirals; Atmospheric Reactions.
