This auction is for the stunning existential third VGG album. This is the album where I feel Peter Hammill's voice is unequalled by any other VGG album or any other British vocalist. An album that grows on you after every spin and supplies you with new surprises and insights every time. The lyrics are in my opinion unequalled in prog or popular music in general, always reflecting on the human condition and revealing new layers of detail and intensity. This should be part of everyone's DNA.
So, so hard to find, one of Van Der Graaf Generator's all time classic albums and here it is where it all came together from start to finish although the predecessor was awesome in its own right!! Splendid prog album in great EX condition!! This will be a great acquisition !!! This has the original pink scroll label. A great copy of this album, rarely ever seen these days.
I have played this in FULL> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! There are not any jumps, pops or skips. Some light static at the beginning of each side for a few seconds only. Very remarkable for this 1971 vinyl!!! The heavy vinyl with high groovewalls provide a fantastic audio experience with channelling not equalled by the later re-issues. I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing B&W three way speakers!!! A beautiful CLASSIC with supreme songcraft, a joy to listen to!!!!
Vinyl: EX+. A sublime copy with only a couple of light retraction type mini hairlines. It is indeed megarare now in this kind of condition. A fantastic album that still sounds up to date now. No wonder VGG's stock has climbed so high in our time. To me this is one of the greatest albums ever committed to vinyl and I listen to it quite often in different formats and issues. Nothing beats this, the original first press with marvellous sound separation. This has hardly been played as is also evident from the fact that there is hardly a spindle trace to be seen. Needless to say NO jumps, clicks or ticks. This will be a fantastic upgrade for most long time collectors!!
Gatefold Sleeve: EX. Fantastic looked after matt sleeve without any damage. This sleeve is extremely hard to find in this great condition. Most would have extensive wear and fading of the predominantly dark colours like also for example the Black Sabbath debut album. Remarkable edges with not much wear at all, a fully well looked after sleeve. There are not even any creases and the spine is fully legible and beautiful. Very very hard to find this sleeve in this gorgeous condition. One small name on the inner gatefold. The winner will be very pleased indeed!! Printed by the E.J.Day Group Ltd.. No writing, no creases, no marks .
Lyric insert: EX. This is the item that is very often not there. Not all early albums had this insert in the first place and a majority have of course gone missing. This one is great with only a few age related spots on the reverse. No creases.
Labels: EX++. No marks writing etc. No spindle marks.
This is a unique investment opportunity!!! The next prog album to go completely through the roof. Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible so late in the day. Get this while you still can. This value of the album is only going to go one way ... up and up ... until it will be totally unavailable at all for a reasonable price.
