Van Morrison : Blowin' Your Mind 1B / 1B 1st Mono Press 1967
This very collectable first mono pressing plays to an incredible standard with barely any background. There is just one light click at the end of the fade out on the final track of S1 - no other intrusion! The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is sensational and in my opinion this is a FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing. There is perhaps just a hint of inner groove distortion on each final track but it is so minimal and scarcely worth a mention. Every aspect of this album has been so well preserved and the vinyl is visually stunning with no scratches etc. Van Morrison did not want this released as an album but there is certainly no doubting the quality of this one!
The cover is in lovely condition with only minimal wear and is not far off Ex+ although I have said Ex just to be cautious. The poly-lined red mono inner sleeve may well be the most stunning example on the market today! It is so clean and easily deserves a Near Mint- grade. A stunning 'package' overall.

Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and has been so well cared for down the decades. It has a fine glossy sheen and there are no marks or scratches. Looking under a strong bright I can only detect a small number of faint hairlines with just one on S2 that is a little more obvious which is superficial as it has no impact on the audio. S1 does have some faint 'contouring' (bag rash) but really it is so faint and can only be seen when you look very closely at the vinyl whilst holding it at a certain angle. The London labels are superb with no marking and minimal spindle wear only. The JT tax stamp can easily be seen on each run out groove.
Play grading
The unmistakable intro on the classic intro on 'Brown Eyed Girl' plays with great clarity and Van Morrison's opening vocal section is just as strong and clear without any background. It has that raw sound that you often find on 60s mono records and the first sha la la la... vocal is perfect. It continues in the same precise way with no ticks, clicks, pops or static and the brief bass section has no intrusion either. The playback from start to finish is very clean and the fade out is a prime example of the clarity on offer here. A Mint- start to the album.
There is complete silence in the dead wax and then 'He Ain't Give You None' plays with genuine quality through every section. The audio is so deep and strong and again there is no intrusion. Remember this vinyl is fast approaching 60 years of age and as stated above it is visually stunning so comes as no surprise that it plays so well! The mid guitar solo is a case in point - so often these instrumental sections on mono records play with some distortion but not here! The sonic quality on this track is stunning, you miss nothing. I think that's a mellotron in the background every now and then and you can hear it so clearly, there is no 'muddiness' to the sound whatsoever. Mint-
Just one light tick in the dead wax and then the 'T.B. Sheets' plays perfectly. Great depth and warmth once more. The opening vocal section is equal that and it continues to play with exceptional quality. Running at nearly 10 minutes I cannot overstate just how 'pristine' the audio is. Put simply there is no interference - no ticks, clicks, pops or static - just that pure clean mono sound with the strong bass sound adding so much depth to the sound. The final section has barely any inner groove distortion (maybe none) showing just how infrequently this vinyl has been played. There is one very light click at the end of the fade out so I will grade as Near Mint but clearly the vast majority is even better than that!

'Spanish Rose' on S2 plays so clearly from the get go. A different 'feel' to this track the clarity and warmth of the audio is stunning and I cannot fault the audio quality, there is no intrusion at all. Mint- On more familiar ground with 'Goodbye Baby (Baby Goodbye)' and it plays with impeccable quality through every section. The backing vocal from The Sweet Inspirations add a strong melody to the track and again Mint- is fair.
'Ro Ro Rosey' plays with great power and definition and.... no interference. The sound quality is superb for a vinyl of this age and again I can't criticise it! If there were any faults I would list them but there aren't any! I like to think my feedback confirms my honesty and integrity. It's a more powerful number and yet there is no distortion on the top end. Mint-
The more laid back intro on 'Who Drove The Red Sports Car' plays to perfection and the opening vocal section is just as clean. Just played it back it back actually and I did detect one barely audible tick and I do mean barely audible! The first 'busy' section plays with clean, sharp audio and the next sedate vocal with that superb bass backing is flawless. It continues to play with such quality and of course there are no clicks or pops. There is perhaps just a minimal touch of distortion on the final 'high octane' section but it doesn't detract from what is a superb version. A couple of very minor ticks also although even ticks seems too harsh a word! It has to be said that Griffin's piano is a real stand out feature on this track and the quieter sections on this track play beautifully. I will say it ranges between Near Mint and Mint- 'Midnight Special' ends this debut album with tremendous audio once more. For a powerful final track the audio is very impressive and if there is any inner groove distortion it is kept to an absolute minimum. In my opinion the sonic 'landscape' is more to do with how it was recorded / produced and that this is a mono record being played through a stereo set up. It still sounds fantastic by the way! A Near Mint conclusion.
The Cover & Red Mono Inner
The cover is in excellent condition and especially for its age! It has only minimal wear and nothing stands out. The edges and spine are so clean and the corners have very little wear also. The opening edge is as close to perfect as you will find and the 'laminated' front cover is stunning. Van Morrison hated it (!) but it is so clean with only light marking running down the right edge, the only area that the laminate does not cover. There are three crease lines in the corners but they are not obvious and the original colouring is still bold and vivid. The back cover is not laminated and yet is still very clean with only minimal faint marking mainly by the top and bottom edge. A fine example overall and easily deserving of an Ex grade.
The original red mono inner sleeve is in remarkable condition for a piece of paper nearing 60 years of age!! It has no side splits or tears, no marking apart from one 'speck' and only minimal creasing. Wow!

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
