Here, you get what you pay for – SAFE PACKING in BOXES using 7mm DOUBLE-WALL STIFFENERS including full side protection and bubble wrap, the records removed from the covers of course. All this very safe packing means I lose money on every box I post, but safe delivery is, and will always be paramount. You WILL see the difference when my packet arrives. Also, I will pay for insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Also I aim to post the very same day after payment is received if possible. PLEASE NOTE: I will NOT send any item, no matter what its value without a Royal Mail or courier tracking number. ALL my items must be signed and traceable to comply with Ebay delivery rules. Please do NOT ask me to make any exceptions to this rule as no country offers 100% reliable service without it.

Posting to Russia: Yes, I do post to Russia. But delivery can take up to 4 to 6 weeks from the UK. So please be patient. I will submit a tracking number to the winning bidder, and when the packet arrives there it can be followed online using the Russian post website.

Weight of this Record: 170 grams. A very heavy-pressed Warner record prior to changing to Kinney with the new catalogue number. You can be certain the K- prefix second and subsequent pressings will be 30 to 40 grams lighter than this heavyweight original.

Rarity & Overview: Scarce as an original. Arguably less lauded within Morrison’s early catalogue, but that should never be, it is a superb album and an excellent follow-up to the legendary ‘Astral Weeks’ and ‘Moondance’ (both also on offer). Also difficult to find without pressing issues, and sometimes they can be quite severe.

Brief Info: The fourth solo Van Morrison album after he left Them, following the massively regarded ‘Astral Weeks’ and ‘Moondance’, it features the popular song ‘Domino’. Morrison himself dismissed the first album ‘Blowin’ Your Mind!’ as it was released without his consent, so arguably this is his third. It received strong reviews and sold fairly well, and by looking at the cover artwork, Van looks a happy man. As stated above, I have always found this a hard one to find without often major pressing faults and unwanted distortion sounds. This one has little to fault and at last, one I can offer. The very heavy, thick record has a few light marks, but have minimal affect on the sound and practically was a pleasure to play-grade with no real inherent pressing issues. The gatefold wear-prone matt cover also very nice as-seen. A very fine original copy for fans and collectors of this Irish songwriting genius, this is another immense work from his early catalogue.

Cover Grade and Format: NEAR EXCELLENT: A thick heavyweight gatefold format with matt, smooth surfaces. Printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse with ‘Patents pending’ text, includes the original polylined inner sleeve.

Cover Front: Absolutely stunning artwork of the young bearded Morrison, and this front with little wear. A little rubbing to the corner tips and mere traces near the edges here-and-there. Clean, fresh, unfaded with any creases or marks few and very fine and light. No sticker issues for which such surfaces are often ruined by tears. Note also, it has the original WS 1884 catalogue number, this was quickly to change to the new Kinney version K 46066.

Cover Back: Similar again with mild corner tip rubbing or minor crease. There is a fine crease near the top right corner area and a few small light marks seen under light. Overall, the pale surface is clean and still fresh and the lack of ring wear is always great news, especially with such a thick record inside all these years.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Little to fault at all, with fantastic personal pictures – has Van the Man ever looked happier on an album cover?

Top Edges: Both flat, flush and straight with any rubbing little and light, most of any present on the white back, so even this registers little.

Bottom Edges: Again straight, but with moderate consistent rubbing on these storage edges.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly sharp with any thickening light as seen viewed end-on,. Record enters on the back edge, all guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced. A cover made with thicker than average card giving it more substantial weight than average – just like the actual record.

Spine and Text: Solid, quite thick and straight with hardly any hint of compression. Also folded square, so the edges meet up very closely together and parallel. The surface has darkened, but with minimal rubbing, the text mostly intact with any letter clipping tiny and light. This also nicely centred as-seen.

Corners: Moderate tip rubbing, less on the spine with fine shape retained with no heavy knocks.

Cover Summary: A strong all-round example of this clearly wear-prone early 1970’s cover, one that could prove difficult to find better. This attractive item should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: NEAR EXCELLENT: a plain white, heavy-duty polylined inner as the pre-Kinney Warner records usually had. This has aged a little with discolouration of the paper and two neat top corner creases, these often deliberate to stop the record sliding out. It has two perfect, crisp window circles and the lining intact and quite clear. All edges solidly intact with no edge splits or repairs. This being UK patented with ‘Foreign Patents Pending’ text.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: NEAR EXCELLENT: a fine visual copy that is clean with equally fine shine and massively pressed on thick heavyweight vinyl. A copy played a few times but with only a few mostly light surface marks seen under bright light, most superficial with no audio affect. Just the odd tiny stylus mark with a couple or three light clicks, but little else. Visually still an impressive record that should please many collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quality album plays mostly above it’s fine visual grading with little to fault. Offering strong clear sound, and without the often present pressing noises or horrible distortions some copies seem to have, Sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are light and very infrequent and compared to most others I heard, this is certainly one of the best pressings I have had in ages, it has no tracking issues*. Few available copies will outperform this genuine first pressing significantly I feel sure. Little of any real note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful album. It could prove difficult to find significantly better and can be highly recommended. Possibly not quite for the purists or audiophile collectors, but from my experience of this title, it will not be easy to find a great deal better.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new Nessie Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
