Gary Ramon's re-born Color Tapes imprint serves up a fifth trawl through its bulging archive of obscure 1980s cassette-only releases. This time round, Ramon focuses on tracks originally recorded (some, apparently, were never released first time around) between 1981 and '83. As you'd expect, the compilation is every bit as essential as its minimal wave and experimental electro-focused predecessors. Highlights are plentiful, from the proto-Drexciya brilliance of Void's "Isotope" and the Lord's darkwave obscurity "Production Line", to the shimmering, slow-motion synthesizer bliss of Beserk in a Hayfield's "August Haze" and the druggy, trance-inducing post-Italo hypnotism of Echophase's "Continental Drift".
