From Tokyo basements to Osaka DIY dens, Mecanica's new compilation Nihon No Wave exhumes a forgotten fringe of Japan's electronic underground. Active from the late 70s into the early 80s, these artists took cues from European post-punk and new wave but repatched them through cracked tape decks, home synths, and even self-made circuits. The result was strange, singular transmissions on cassettes, flexi-discs and private-pressed vinyl, barely trickling outside Japanese borders. This 24-track compilation draws from that elusive "Nippon-wave" scene, with warped synth pop, eerie minimalism and stung electronics from C. Memi, Neo Museum, Anima and Ricochet. Lovingly restored and remastered by Nicolas ZuNiga, it offers a rare window into a parallel DIY electronic timeline, where coldwave tape scenes might be more often associated with Europe.
