Joel Schumacher's 1987 vampire film - about a gang of plasmavores drawing in one of an unsuspecting duo of brothers - had a soundtrack that worked harder than the film strictly required. Four decades later it lands on Friday Music, retaining its coherence despite its disjointed assemblage of song sources. With ten cues running INXS and Jimmy Barnes doing Harry Vanda and George Young's 'Good Times', Roger Daltrey covering an Elton John and Bernie Taupin song, Echo & The Bunnymen's Doors cover and Thomas Newman's solitary instrumental, it's a freewheeling AOR-style listen, but the selections are truly vampiric, with Gerard Mcmann's 'Cry Little Sister' standing out for its death-knelling, nail-in-the-coffin organ breakdown.
