Description
Offered here is a rare and highly collectible V Disc record from October, 1945.
The first 'B' side cut features "Home" by Mitchell Ayres and his Orchestra, the second cut features The Andrews Sisters singing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" accompanied by Mitchell Ayres and his Orchestra. These versions were copied from the V-Disc "For The Record" radio program (July 31 - November 20, 1944) and there were no contemporary commercial releases.
The 'A' side features 2 hits by The Mills Brothers.
In addition, the labels are stamped "Chaplain's Office / U. S. S. PORTLAND / Fleet Post Office / San Francisco, California". This identifies it's origin as being from the USS PORTLAND. This record was issued October, 1945 and about that time, the USS Portland was a troop transport ferrying U.S. troops back to mainland U.S. from Japan. I suspect this record got plenty of play time on those voyages and was enjoyed by a bunch of homebound G.I.'s!
This record visually grades VG/VG+ (see photos), plays very nicely.
