Description
Velvet Underground & Nico, first West Coast stereo pressing from 1967, V6/5008, with covered up torso by lawsuit sticker, and label misprint on 'I'll Be Your Mirror', run time says 2:01 instead of 2:10.
The albums with actor Eric Emerson's torso are extremely rare. The first edition's rear cover photo showed the band with his inverted face superimposed on the picture of Lou Reed‘s head. This is commonly called the “torso” version”. Emerson was in need of money and sued Verve Records to pay him for the use of his photograph. Verve refused to pay and recalled as many copies as it could and stuck a large black sticker over the offending photograph. That makes the version with the sticker without a doubt the rarest version. On subsequent printings of the album sleeve, the photograph was airbrushed to obscure Emerson’s portrait before the album could be reissued in June 1967.
The cover is overall in very good condition, the back cover only has a two inch split seam on the upper right. The banana is intact, partially peeled at some point but seamlessly put back together. In the photos the cover appears to be yellowish, which it isn't. This is caused by soft white light bulbs. The vinyl plays VG on most tracks, VG- on Femme Fatale and parts of Heroin and Run Run Run.
Definitely one of the most important albums of all time, with artwork that is the closest thing to a real Andy Warhol. This piece of history is hard to beat and as cool as it gets. No reserve price!
