Description

You are bidding on a ‘ FIRST STATE’ MONO release of The Velvet Underground and Nico – S/titled LP (orig. US MONO gatefold cover, blue & silver Verve V-5008—1967).  This is a stock copy, with intact peel-able banana (front cover) and UNCENSORED image of Mr. Eric Emerson’s torso (back cover), which was first covered up with a sticker in later editions and then air-brushed out completely.  This copy was among the initial batch released in March 1967 and from the song credits it appears to be a West Coast pressing.  Please check the following web site for details: http://members.aol.com/olandem5/odlpus.html.

The jacket is M-, the only reason I have marked it down from M is that it appears the banana was peeled back about one inch at the top and then smoothed back in place – only a fold mark appears to indicate anything occurred.  The jacket otherwise appears as if it had just come out of the shrinkwrap.  You will not find a better copy other than one still sealed.  The disc is VG+, with some surface scuffs and scratches that do not affect play.

 

The pictures displayed with this listing consist of a photo of the overall album, a scan of the label, a scan of the banana portion of the front cover, and a scan of the back cover photo showing the torso.  Please note the absence of marks or holes on the jacket.  Also includes the original inner sleeve.  A premiere copy of an extremely rare version of a landmark recording.
