Description
This is a vinyl copy of the classic, 1968 Psychedelic LP "WHITE LIGHT / WHITE HEAT" by THE VELVET UNDERGROUND. Fetures the mighty "Sister Ray" & the plain weird "The Gift". This is a STEREO ORIGINAL American issue of their 2nd album. On the collectable bright blue VERVE label; the cat.no. is V6/5046. Matrix nos. MGS 1258 & MGS 1259 . * I bought this Secondhand in 1969 for 17/6 (pre-decimal), about 87.5p in current money, I think !!!!!!* It is in exactly the same condition now as it was when I bought it.
* PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE NEW & RIDICULOUS POLICY BY e-BAY OF NOT ALLOWING ANY CHARGE FOR P&P (IT OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T COST NOTHING!!!!), I HAVE HAD TO START THIS ITEM @ £4.99 INSTEAD OF THE 99p I WOULD HAVE STARTED IT AT* SORRY, BUT I CAN'T AFFORD TO MAKE A LOSS ON EVERY LP SALE UNDER £5 !!!!!
The outer, single, thick card cover is in VERY GOOD- condition overall. American covers from this era always wear badly, in my experience. This one shows age-wear on both sides, but essentially everything is still intact. Some minor creasing, & with edge rubbing (+ corner rub); this cover is actually still quite good, especially for it's age. The front black "Skull" surface is VG+, but does have ringwear & some surface rub points. The spine is VG- ; perfectly, straight, flat & true with all Title Print easily readable, but with several spinal wear points throughout. The opening edge is EXCELLENT- with no serious feathering & being clean, straight & flat. The rear, pasted on black & white surface is VG-, but does have the continuation of the wear-rub & general age-related wear of the front. There is also a very small, very neat name (mine!) written in black ink in the top right-hand corner not at all obtrusive or, unsightly. I grade this back surface as VG- , but with all type/print perfectly readable.
The BLUE VERVE record labels with Silver print & logos are almost EXCELLENT. Just the odd minor spindle marks (mostly on Side 1) on them prevents a higher grading. As stated earlier, this issue is an ORIGINAL 1968 AMERICAN pressing. The VERVE Inner, featuring other Artists on the same label) is VERY GOOD.
The vinyl is in better condition than the cover; I grade it EXCELLENT- with a couple of surface marks clearly visible in ordinary daylight & more under artificial light. Side 2 looks pretty good to me in natural daylight with hardly any marking; Side 1 has more marking. Certainly no major scratches or really serious or, deep marks. Test played today on my highly critical Linn Sondek LP12 ; Plays VERY WELL with the odd click & crackle & just some surface noise between tracks & in the quieter passages.
