Description
EXTREMELY RARE FOR ANY COLLECTOR!!!
1ST PRESSING USA MONO 1953 Deep Groove/Flat Edge PROGRESSIVE RECORDS, NEW YORK
***Per Goldmines Collectible Jazz 1949-1969, there were only 2 10" Recordings, both MONO (Progressive PLP-3002 and
PLP-3004). PROGRESSIVE Record label was very short lived and very few copies of this 1st pressing/ 1st recording exist.
** THE ONLY KNOWN RECORDINGS of the "AL COHN QUINTET" with this personnel.....
HORACE SILVER (piano) / CURLY RUSSELL (bass) /
MAX ROACH (drums) / NICK TRAVIS (trumpet)
***All original songs by AL COHN
*****I could not find any history on this Popsike or Discogs., or any other source except the ltd info I addressed above from Goldmines. It appears to be a ONE of a KIND and almost non-existant. This is from a private collection who obtained most every recording of this artist so I know it is rare.
Goldmines states this is the 1953 1st press original, and SAVOY 12048 is a reissue of 3002 and 3004 called "Cohn's Tunes" 1956. Also, Coral Records CRL 57118 called AL Cohn Quintet, 1957 is with BROOKMEYER, and not the same personnel as above. See Below.
***NOTE, THE SONG TITLES ARE THE SAME AS THIS 1ST ORIGINAL. THIS TRULY SEEMS TO BE VERY RARE!!!!
BACK OF COVER has PROMO for only 3 PROGRESSIVE LP'S of which we also have the CHUCK WAYNE QUINTET 10"
