Amazing as it may seem now, DEEP PURPLE were not an instant success. Their first few album did better in the USA than Europe, despite being on a very minor label, TETRAGRAMMATON. "THE BOOK OF TALIESYN", their second album was released in the USA in 1968, pre-dating it's 1969 UK and European release by quite some time. This therefore is the FIRST first edition of this disc, now rightly regarded as a classic. It was less successful in the USA than the first, and there are, therefore, far fewer copies in existence: this quote is from the USA DEEP PURPLE DISCOGRAPHY...
<<After the relative success of Shades in the US, this album was quickly recorded during the Autumn of 1968, and was put out the same year in the US; but it wasn't released before 1969 in Europe, where the band was much more obscure.
As it's predecessor, the quality varies, but I find it to be a good album. Ritchie's solo during Deep Purple's cover of Neil Diamond's (!) Kentucky Woman remains one of his best to date. Shield remains a very strong number, Mark I's best.
Sales were lower in the US for this one, and there were still no chart action in Europe.
The US versions changed the name of Wring that Neck to Hard Road. The European LP had a gatefold sleeve.

As to condition, the cover is in a Exc, perhaps Exc- condition,the front being somewhat better than the back which is slighly "grubby" (though I've seen a lot worse, I must say). The vinyl is Exc, perhaps Near Mint. Please study the pics below. Please feel free to contact me for more info.
