Description
Extremely rare limited edition box set release of Elvis Costello's classic debut, MY AIM IS TRUE.
In 1988, the HMV record store chain in the UK released a series of limited edition box sets of classic albums called the THE HMV CLASSIC COLLECTION. One of the albums featured was Costello's classic 1977 debut.
I am selling quite a few rare Costello items to make space for a house move and this one is unusual in that I have never seen another copy and as far as I can tell, it isn't even mentioned on the Costello collectors' treasure trove, the Elvis Wiki.
The album itself is the mid-80s Demon / Imp release (Costello bought the rights to his own back catalog in the mid-80s and put everything out on his own label: My Aim Is True was originally released on Stiff, of course) and it is housed in a handsome, embossed, 12" box.
Contents: Included in the embossed box is:
- A 12" vinyl copy of the UK issue of My Aim Is True in full color sleeve on the Demon label
- An exclusive 12-page booklet, authored by Paul Du Noyer (NME, Q, Mojo etc) on the importance of My Aim Is True, featuring great photos and original reviews of the album from Rolling Stone and Melody Maker.
- A collector's note / certificate from the managing director of HMV listing the other titles available.
Condition:
- The box is a little marked—but not much considering it is nearly 30 years old—and has a sticker mark on the front (not sure what glue they used back then...)
- The vinyl is mint / near mint (I'm not sure I ever played it)
- The sleeve is mint / near mint (it has been protected by this outer box for 30 years...)
- The HMV letter is very good to excellent (it has a tiny fold at the bottom - see pic)
- The booklet is is excellent
