This was the very first official release, being released on the 22nd of March 1963 (MONO version) and later on the 26th of April 1963 (STEREO version). The Lp reached number one in; Disc Weekly, Melody Maker,  New Musical Express and The Record Retailer in the UK. Only to be knocked off by their next album With The Beatles.

 Amazingly the songs, which were taken from their first two singles and included a further ten songs, were all recorded in one marathon session at Abbey Road Studios. John wasn't feeling too well and got throught the 3 sessions in the one day by having milk, tea and Zubes lozenges....

Vinyl:
HEAVYWEIGHT QUALITY 163g
VG++. VERY nice, heavy & shiny vinyl! She does carry some light needle marks to her....but only very occasionally heard in playback
 I have just finished listening to all of her and didn't find any jumps or sticks to either side!
Some light and occasional background noise-really nothing to detract from the DEEP rich and clear bass, with an overall superb audio reproduction!
FLAT, HEAVY AND ORIGINAL!
GREAT RAW SOUND TOO


Labels: VG. There is some central hole wear-as can be seen in the detailed images provided, with some light spindle marks evident.
 Outer rim text starts with "The Parlophone Co.Ltd" "Recording First Published 1963" stated under the printed matrix number.
NO "Sold In UK..." statement...Showing it is the 5th pressing.

Now, here's the more unusual fact about this label:
It carries a "J" tax code to side 1!!! In my knowledge these "J" codes were only used when the disc was intended to be used as a DEMO/PROMO!

Inner: VG-. ORIGINAL "Use Emitex" poly-lined inner-which has certainly done her job by looking after the vinyl and keeping her in a wonderful state for the last 52 years!!
She has come away from one side but that is all-remains solid.
Also has the much earlier:
"PATENTS APPLIED FOR" text to one side.

RARER 1st PRINTING EJ DAY COVER
( These were produced at roughly a ration of 1:10, compared to the usual Garrod & Lofthouse covers)
 There is some light wear to the front cover, with some spidering to the laminate.
The corners have had some rubbing and knocked.
The thicker HEAVYWEIGHT card cover has also had some rubbing to the edges in patches, with repaired split to the bottom..as well as tape to the top flipback.
The spine is in great condition and is bright white with perfectly legible Please Please Me title.
The oversized E J Day flipbacks have two taped but as stated-the spine is in great condition.
NO WRITING

 A genuine 1st printing Ernest J Day cover with the Angus McBean in the lower right corner on the front.
