BL-54042 - He's So Fine - Jackie Wilson [1959] Etcetera/To Be Loved/Come Back To Me/If I Can't Have You/As Long As I Live/Reet Petite (The Finest Girl You Ever Want to Meet) //It's Too Bad We Had To Say Goodbye/Why Can't You Be Mine/I'm Wanderin'/Right Now!/Danny Boy/It's So Fine

In 1957, Jackie Wilson left Billy Ward and the Dominoes and released this debut album on Brunswick Records a year later. The new songwriting team of Berry Gordy, Jr. & Tyran Carlo (aka Billy Davis) wrote six of the 12 songs. Backed by a big band, Wilson belts out "Reet Petite" like it's an Olympic event, displaying his irresistible vocal gymnastics; "Etcetera" treads the same path. "To Be Loved" and "Danny Boy," the old standard, are heartfelt, stately ballads. Wilson wrote the jump tune "Come Back to Me."

This collection of Jackie Wilson's early Brunswick material is fine uptown soul; worth hearing, worth owning.

Please note that I have begun to sell some of my collection which includes 1950s & '60s 45's and LPs in excellent condition. Please keep a watch on my site for some interesting vintage recordings.
