VINTAGE WOODEN, VINYL COVERED, RETRO 12" LP CARRYING CASE/STORAGE BOX STRONG, SOLID & CLEAN ~ HOLDS ABOUT 40 RECORDS
This week on Ebay we are offering up this old, vintage, retro, very solid and sturdy, wooden, 12" LP 33-RPM record storage box or carrying case.
This likely dates back to the late 50's or early 60s, and is built like a tank. Thick wooden sides, strong, solid, nickel-plated hardware, a strong sturdy handle and a lock. Indestructible!
It was full of late 50s and early 60s 12-inch LPs when I purchased it many years ago. All pre-Beatles era, so I suspect that's when it was made.
I've had this cool retro carrying case for over 30 years and have used it many times to go 'Crate Digging' in the city and to bring my rare and precious LPs to various Shops & Record Shows in the NYC area over the years.
As I said, it's built of thick solid wood and covered with a smooth Burgundy Red vintage vinyl-like plastic. It has a 'textured' white lid, with white stitching hi-lights and a solid white hard plastic handle.
The inside is covered with a soft vinyl-like coating that really protects the records.
I've carried this all over Manhattan for decades and it always got my records home, safe and protected.
The size is roughly 13" wide and tall. Enough room to safely hold records and let them 'breathe', but not too much room to have them shifting around. A perfect size. It's about 7" deep and holds about 40 LPs. I've had this packed full with vinyl many times and the strong handle has never been an issue. The handle is wide enough and tall enough to let you really get a good grip.
I added a ruler to a few of my pictures to give you an idea of the size, but these old cases are all similar sized.
I took some pictures with some LPs inside to show you the general idea. The records are NOT part of the auction, and are just for display purposes only. Sorry.
It has very nice clean internal compartment, padded with a soft black 'vinyl' lining. It's never 'damaged' a record. The compartment is clean, dust-free and solid. There's a mild 'scuff' on the right-hand underside of the lid you can see in some of my pictures. No big deal.
The surface of the case is covered with very cool, retro, Burgundy Red vinyl-type plastic. No rips or tears and it's still tightly and securely attached. The top has white stitching around the edges.
The construction is very durable. The hinges are massive, strong and solid.
The front has a nice nickel-plated lock which closes tightly and opens easily, but I don't have a key. It's 'unlocked' but snaps shut tightly and pops open when you push the button. It holds the top down nice and secure. The 'fit' of the lid is perfect; no exposed seams to let moisture, dust or dirt in.
The condition is still fantastic. There are one or two very small 'dings' along the edges, and very light scratches on the lower front from years of use, but it still looks great. The bottom underside of the case has a 'scuff' in one corner, but you don't see it from above. I purposely showed pictures of the 'worst' dings, and the worst corner, but, in general, this vintage LP case still looks terrific.
You can see from my pictures how nice it still looks.
This is a very nice, solid, durable LP carrying case that would be a great place to store your records or would make a great carrying case for a record collector, travelling DJ or record spinner. As I said, I used it for many years to carry LPs back and forth on the subway from my 'digs' in NYC and for bringing 'special' LPs to friend's homes and record shows, back in the day.
Again, it holds about 40 LP's or 12" singles.
My record show dealing days are long over and it's time to pass this great carrying case on to it's next owner. It served me well for decades, but needs a new home.
As I said, it's built like a tank, solid wood, very sturdy, and will definitely protect your LPs from damage. It displays great as well, and would look terrific in your music room. It has a great 'retro' vintage look, which is all the rage now.
I tried to show pictures of this great carrying case from every angle, so you can see how well it's built and how clean and useable it still is. They certainly don't make them like this anymore. A real gem.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This case is large, heavy and solid, so shipping cost within the lower 48 states, unfortunately with new prices, is $7.50 for this item.
