VINTER ‘VINTER II’ lp on TJARNEN, finland. awesome private press micro release from the same label that did the amazing MAAILMA lp (featuring LAU NAU) a few years back, and featuring members of that group as well. silkscreen covers, two inserts, 266 copies only. very sweet one. NEAR MINT.

“that year when they first started playing together it seemed that winter would go on forever. what eventually became the first record happened in one furious burst of improvisation on one bleak february afternoon, on the day some of them were first introduced to each other. but these new songs weren’t found in one place, they didn’t just flow from some horn of plenty, they were slowly plucked like flowers along the road-side, dried in the sun and put next to each other in an album that grew in the months that followed that first session, while winter turned into spring, and spring into summer. like on the first album, not one of these songs existed in any way or form before the first instant of recording. like on the first album, some of them were recorded when the room had been prepared for recording, when microphones were connected to preamps. others just happened to be captured because someone had a dictaphone or a walkman or a tape recorder within reach when the song struck, unforeseen and unannounced. some of them turned out to be small gems of a song that belie their impromptu origins, others wear their spontaneous creation proudly like a crown of fallen petals. some are kalimba and banjo back of the woods folk music, others two chord pop songs with pump organ or plucked cello. and there’s the long and winding song myller (the name evokes the creeping and crawling multitudes of the forest floor), that coils back and forth between different aspects of vinter’s ever shifting soundscape. i first saw vinter at a makeshift concert room in an old turn of the century apartment, all enshrouded in the flickering light of the projected visuals, martina’s sad, gentle, shimmering vocals filling the room from end to end, every little nook and cranny, with a language of vaguely familiar words, whose sense is obscured like something seen through an old broken and dusty window-pane. that was when the first record came out into the world. but this is later, this is now, and this new record is another spell-book of the fey and brittle magic that vinter cast upon the listener.”
