Description

Vito Tommaso - Same

Italian pressing, RCA Victor SIVS 31 (~1967)

Very rare record by the Vito Tommaso quintet with his brother GIOVANNI TOMMASO (double bass), FRANCO MONDINI (drums), MAURIZIO DEL ANGELIS (guitar) and FRANCESCO BATTIMELLI (flute). Not properly a library record but it includes the very first version of the supreme modal jazz track I GIOVANI D'OGGI, later covered by the Giovanni Tommaso quintet with Lee Konitz for the great StereoKonitz Lp\Musiche di genere e di maniera n.65 library! But the whole record is amazing, loads of groovy mod funk tracks like the original composition VIAGGIO A DETROIT, the great version of Sandie Shaw's NOTHING COMES EASY (called POCHI SORRISI), stellar version of the classic mod beat cue ALONG COMES MARY by The Association, killer rendition of CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' (complete with handclapping) and groovy version of IT AIN'T NECESSARILY SO! Even a very well done jazz interpretation of THE GIRL FROM IPANEMA bossanova theme. Listen!
