For sale is an unusual 1947 picture disc made by VOGUE The Picture Record featuring Enric Madriguera and his Orchestra. Side one is the song SO IT GOES. Side 2 is THE MINUTE SAMBA. I am listing this in GOOD condition as I have not tested this. Shows normal wear for a record that is 75 years old. Most collector's collect them for the viusal content rather than the musical content.
This is Stamped "VOGUE SECONDS". According to THE ASSOCIATION OF VOGUE PICTURE RECORD COLLECTOR'S, the record was stamped "VOGUE SECONDS" because of damaged illustrations such as smeared ink, torm paper, etc. WHAT A GREAT FIND FOR A COLLECTOR--to have it Stamped "VOGUE SECONDS"--many were MELTED after the company went into receivership!
The article also stated that when the company went into receivership in Aug 1947, all remaining stock was liquidated through distributors--This was the source of all the "Factory Rejects" and "Vogue Seconds" records that are seen. It is reported that MANY of the left-over records were melted down to recycle the aluminum used in the core of the record!
Vogue picture records were of a very high quality, with little surface noise. The records were produced using a complicated process whereby a central core aluminum disc was sandwiched between the paper illustrations and vinyl. Perfecting this process took quite a while; Tom Saffady and his engineers spent several months working out the bugs that often resulted in torn or dislodged paper illustrations. This may have been one of them!
