LP : Vollmond Jazz / same

Original German first pressing from 1979 on JAZZ HAUS MUSIK, JHM 02 ST, second release of the company wich at that time still was a tiny local private label run by Peter Fröhlich in Cologne, Germany. Recorded September 1979 at Tuba-Tonstudio, Odenthal. This seems to be the first recording of Wollie Kaiser and Jochen Schmidt, both were also part of NAIMA, wich released 2 interesting LPs in 1980 (on JAZZ HAUS MUSIK) and 1981 (on NABEL). W.Kaiser is of course still one of the most busy and prominent figures in Cologne's jazz-scene, as is drummer F.Wittek. Due to low pressing-quantities in the label's early period this one does not show up too often.

The VOLLMOND JAZZ record is an amazing album from the beginning to the end: soulful grooves, heavy (latin) percussion, oriental tracks, modal jazz, awesome marimbas, great bass-flute- & soprano-playing, spacy atmospheres and more. This LP is still a bit under the radar, but it definitely deserves and now starts to get wider recognition, it appears on some of the Japanese want- and sale-lists, e.g. at the moment of this writing here: om-ondas.com/?pid=1615585, here you can also listen to excerpts of 2 tracks.

In my current auctions I offer another small-label release ft. Jochen Schmidt: “Axel Petry Quintet - Live at 'Salt Peanuts'”, a 1982 release on the small local amf-label from Aachen ( aka “Aix-la-Chapelle”).

Line-up: Wollie Kaiser/tenor- & soprano-saxophone, bass-flute & percussion – Jochen Schmidt/vibraphone & marimbaphone – Kutlu Ünlalp or Klaus Theilacker/bass - Maggie Kaiser/congas, bongos, cuica & percussion – Fritz Wittek/drums, timbales & percussion

Tracks: side 1: Samba De Romaney – Gruen - Sambamba side 2: Quarten Stück - Future Place - Hyou

Condition: the record looks mint- in daylight & in normal artificial light, it looks mint-- to ex++ under a very strong halogen lamp (few papersleeve-lines). It plays in mint- all of the time.

The cover shows just light shelfwear, all seams/spine are intact with a slightest rub in a few spots on the top-seam and just a little more on the bottom-seam, the spine is rub-free and the lettering is perfectly readable, front & back are pretty fine with just light shelfwear ( e.g. a thin white line on the front across the shadows of the instruments); overall ex--/vg++.

Zustand: die LP sieht bei Tageslicht & unter einer normalen Lampe mint- aus, unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe sieht sie mint-- bis ex++ aus (einge wenige Innenhüllen-Lines). Sie spielt durchgehend in mint- .

Das Cover hat nur leichte Lagerspuren, alle Kanten sind intakt mit leichtestem Abrieb an wenigen Stellen der oberen Kante und nur etwas mehr an der unteren Kante, die seitliche Kante ist frei von Abrieb und die Schrift ist perfekt lesbar, Vorder- & Rückseite sind recht gut erhalten mit nur leichten Gebrauchsspuren (z.B. einer weissen dünnen Linie über den Schatten der Instrumente); insgesamt in ex--/vg++.

Alle Platten wurden professionell gereinigt, entweder von mir (Hannl Mikro) oder von den Vorbesitzern (Okki Nokki, Loricraft o.Ä.). Anschließend wurden sie nur wenige Male abgespielt bzw. nur einmal von mir zum Bewerten angehört (komplett oder in Ausschnitten). Optische Bewertung erfolgt in Tageslicht, in normalen Kunstlicht & unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe. Platten kommen mit neuer hochwertiger Innenhülle & in einer Schutzhülle. Bitte beachten: auch prof. gereinigte Platten können einige Staubpartikel haben; “eingefangen” während optischer & akkustischer Bewertung, Fotografieren oder den wenigen Abspielungen der Vorbesitzer.

Grading & Cleaning:

• all records have been cleaned on a professional record cleaning machine, either by me (Hannl Mikro) or by the pre-owners (Okki Nokki, Loricraft or the like). After cleaning the records have been played just a few times (or only once by me for playgrading)

• I playgrade each record (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, high-end Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN/ EMT TU-3 SFL (please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment)

• I also visually grade cleaned records in daylight, in normal artificial light & under a strong halogen lamp

• only an unplayed record is mint, my highest grading for a used record is mint- . My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg

• cleaned records are stored in a new pro innersleeve and they are placed in a PVC protection-sleeve

• pl. note: even pro cleaned records may have received some dust particles during visual-/play-grading, photographing or few pre-owner playbacks
