Description
Vinyl by this talented, soulful, yet obscure artist, go easily for hundreds of dollars and have continued to rise in value (copies have gone for $676 - that was in 2013 before the Vinyl Renaissance got into full swing). The artist has recorded in my hometown of Hampton Roads, VA. (Norfolk Sound in Chesapeake, VA., etc.), an area where a soulful voice needs some luck to emerge from oppressive conditions. Had this underrated artist had more support/promotion, he might have made it big. But would all the hype of success have robbed his work of the very unpretentious charm (even LP cover is humble) we are so eager to discover in time capsules such as these. Perhaps, you could think of his sound as having a smoother, more soulful, essence than the late Prince, and without the over-produced commercialism of today's vocalists. He just let's it out smoothly with articulate feeling. His soul spoke and years later our ears listen.

Aout the mastering: Steele started Frankford/Wayne's mastering operations in 1966. First as part of the Philadelphia recording institution Sigma Sound Studios and then later setting up Frankford/Wayne Recording Labs. In 1973 they also set up shop in New York City. - Frankford/Wayne Mastering Labs, Inc. was incorporated on May 13th, 1974. CD and vinyl mastering continues to be an integral part of their business. Some of the mastering engineers that have worked at Frankford/Wayne include: Michael Sarsfield (Sarah Vaughn, etc.), Carlton Batts, Al Brown (5), Jeff Ader, Herb Powers Jr., Greg Vaughn, Rick Essig, José Rodriguez, Chris Gehringer, Don Grossinger, Stuart J. Romaine, Duncan Stanbury and Tom Coyne. Vinyl records mastered at Frankford/Wayne in New York, if not printed on the center labels or sleeve, can be recognized by a mastering stamp in the runout groove. The mastering stamp usually takes the form of MASTERING BY FRANKFORD/WAYNE NEW YORK, or the initials F/W followed by an apple symbol. Later releases only have F/W, like this particular release, most are often followed by the engineers signature or initials.
