Only two records I have listened to in the midst of my pet cat ever really disturbed her.
One was a Gale record that sounded so alive in my listening room, my cat jumped down to the floor, and, bent down low, crawled toward the loudspeakers, incredulous, I think, as to why she couldn’t see what she heard as so real.
The other record was this one, ANTARCTICA, by Vangelis (for the Koreyoshi Kurahara film).
For this one, not only did she leap down from the sofa, my cat high-tailed it upstairs not to be found for a day or so. I kid you not.
I really don’t know why, except to offer that this LP can offer up strange effects, with such fine “in the room” sound, you feel at times…as if something is lurking, something ominous.
I share this tale only to warn you: Of all the albums on the TAS list for sonic excellence, CAT PEOPLE, THE PLAGUE, and this one, are, yes, downright scary. (Not for children or pets.)
The finest pressing of ANTARCTICA available, one of the very special records you do not listen to…instead, you come to witness.
Cover is without fault, record inside is near mint.

Be sure to find the proper volume here; not overplayed, not underplayed. Establish what you believe is the right “size” for your listening room, though note that this may take you a listen or two, considering the material.
