ITEM:  Important, First Pressing STEREO black vinyl Lp RECORD ALBUM on VERVE Label of the self-titled THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO release, often referred to as the " BANANA " album as it features Banana artwork by Pop Icon ANDY WARHOL on the Dustjacket's Front Cover.

ARTIST(S): The VELVET UNDERGROUND - Lou REED, NICO, John CALE, Sterling MORRISON, Maureen TUCKER. Produced by ANDY WARHOL.

SIZE / SPEED: 12 inch black vinyl LP Long-Play Record Album, 33 RPM.  Housed in Gatefold Dustjacket. Record disc housed in it's Original Paper Sleeve which has photos and advertises 12 artistson the VERVE label ( including Righteous Brothers, Count Basie, Stan Getz, Ella Fitzgerald, Wes Montgomery, Willie Bobo).

VINTAGE: 1967

GENRE:  intense Urban PRE - PUNK Psychadelic. This low-selling " uncommercial " experimental  "genre-stretching"  Lp has been Ranked by ROLLING STONE Magazine as the 13th Most Important Rock Album of Alll  Time. 

THE DUSTJACKET: Front Cover - Original FIRST PRESSING Releases (Mono & Stereo) feature a Warhol designed Yellow BANANA peel-off Sticker located under a small size Text Line that instructs the owner to " PEEL SLOWLY AND SEE."  Under this Yellow Sticker is a Pink Colored rendition of the "meat" / fruit of the Banana.

                              Back Cover: The top two-thirds of the the Jacket's Backside has a Photo of the Band in Concert.  ON THE ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING DOMESTIC Releases there is Projected  on a screen Behind and Above the Band  an Image of WARHOL film FACTORY male actor ERIC EMERSON hanging upside down. His torso is bare. --- Immediately upon the release of this album, EMERSON threatened a Lawsuit against VERVE and the Band for the Unauthorized Use of his Image. A quick Stop was placed on Unshipped Product and a " Black Lawsuit Sticker " was affixed to the Backside of these LPs which masks out/covers the Emerson image ( altho the images of Emerson's  lower wrist  & hands/fingers can still be seen on the Originals below the Black Sticker  ). Subsequent domestic and Export pressings have the Emerson image airbrushed out and replaced with a projected image of another person's head /face. WHAT WE ARE OFFERING IN THIS AUCTION   IS THE AFFIXED   " BLACK LAWSUIT STICKER "  FIRST  PRESSING STEREO Version.

CONDITION: I've noticed that Some - NOT ALL - other Sellers of this VELVET album are sometimes a bit Succinct / Abrupt  in their CONDITION Descriptions ,... - a sort've Description via OMISSION. I am going to try to NOT be guilty of this. I am going to Describe all the Important Facets of the Item we have here (Both Record and Jacket). The Buyer should NOT Expect this Item to be Better than My Description indicates. However - and More Importantly - the BUYER WILL NOT receive an Item that is overgraded or in a Condition that is Lesser shape  Than Described.

     IMPORTANT: All 8 of our Photos and Scans are of the ACTUAL ITEM Being Offered.

     RECORD:  Visual Appearence:  Black Vinyl is still Shiney Black. Tilting to the light does show multiple LIGHT surface scratches HOWEVER NONE are Long, Deep or harsh.

                        PLAY-GRADED Sound Quality: NO sticks or skips. Plays straight through. Occasional MINIMAL backround surface noise shows up (Not loud, short lengths). Some infrequent, NOT LOUD " Pops." . By Goldmine Standards - Sound Quality on this Disc is a Solid GOOD to VERY GOOD.

      Disc Labels: Original Blue VERVE labels. SIDE A: Some minor wear and a few small paper Nicks on label and around the spindle hole. Original owner wriote his name " M. SMITH " in black ink at the bottom of the Verve " T " (please Examine our Scan). SIDE B: A paper Nick on the right side of the " T " crossbar and paper wear around the spindle hole (please examine our Scan).

     Inner Paper Sleeve: Unmarked and NO problems. No seam splits.

     DUSTJACKET:  FRONT COVER - Original Yellow BANANA Skin Sticker is MISSING. Absent, Long-Gone - maybe stuck on the front door of a refrigerator in some 1967 NYC hippie crashpad. Amazing when you think of it but that little sticker - left intact and in place - is Now worth a couple of hundred extra dollars.

                                FRONT COVER - In lieu of the original Yellow Sticker, the Original Owner of this Album has placed a Blue CHIQUITA BRAND Bananas sticker on the pink meat of the Banana artwork (about 1/3 down from the banana's top point). Hey - I didn't do this guys - but actually I sort of like this artistic addition  even though it may detract from this item's perceived value.

                                 BACK COVER: Some see-thru white surface wear to the condition-sensitive Affixed black lawsuit sticker (please examine our Photos and Close-Up Scans). 

                                  INNER GATEFOLD: Unmarked and No problems.

                                  General DUSTJACKET CONDITION: General Light Surface Wear, Edge Wear, light Corner bumps/wear, wear to top/bottom of Spine. If you open Jacket to its gatefold state and assign 4 locations to the 4 horizontal edge seams ( top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right) this Jackets has the following 2 issues - (Top Right Seam)  4 inch Seam SPLIT from corner point extending inward (to the left) 4 inches. (Bottom Right Seam) 2 inch seam split centered in the middle of the seam (bottom edge). OVERALL - Shows its Age and Wear  but NO drastic Flaws (other than the missing Yellow Sticker). NOT HAMMERED. In acceptable, collectible Condition for the Collector who does not wish to spend in the High Hundreds for a Near Mint example.

     OVER-ALL CONDITION: Good Sound and Acceptable Jacket for a Rare ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING Version of this Landmark Album.
