Description
"The Velvet Underground & Nico" (Verve Records V-5008). Their landmark debut LP. With the banana on the cover intact. The gatefold cover is VG- with obvious dirt and ringwear -- see my scan. But it's great that the classic Andy Warhol banana remains unpeeled. There's a 1/8-inch punch hole in the lower left hand corner -- see my scan. The LP's original owner ran a head shop in the late 1960s, and this was almost certainly a promo copy sent to him to play in-store. But I don't think it was his cup of Sunday morning tea, because the wax is in much better shape. VG++ to Mint-minus on Side 1, VG on Side 2 -- though 4 of the 5 tracks there are in great shape, and Side 2 only gets downgraded because track 1, "Heroin," has some flaws, possibly there in the pressing from the very beginning (that's my guess). Sight graded (though I played most of it again, what a treat!). Strict grading. No sticker on the back cover, by the way, again suggesting that this was a first pressing promo.
On Dec-04-13 at 05:16:51 PST, seller added the following information:Since a number of people have asked, and I can not figure out how to add the photo of the back cover to my listing -- E-Bay's system says I've successfully done it over and over, but it never winds up showing in the actual listing (very frustrating) -- let me just confirm that this LP does indeed have the prized so-called "torso cover" on the back side.
