Description
Year of Release: 1968
Label: Verve
Info: UK first mono pressing with A1/B1 matrices (full matrix numbers: V5045 A-1 1G / V5046 B-1 1G, so this is the earliest possible pressing) and laminated front/flipback rear sleeve. The vinyl has numerous marks and surface scuffs but plays much better than it looks (the beauty of these 1960s heavyweight pressings seems to be that they always sound good no matter what has been done to them!). The Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve also has laminate veins and bubbling and marking on the rear - but no seam or spine splits. The plain white diecut inner is included - im not sure if this was the original one on release but i have also placed the vinyl in a poly lined sleeve to further protect it.
Condition
Sleeve/Case: Numerous laminate veins on the front and a couple of scratches from the spine about halfway down. The rear shows ringwear and quite a few marks as well (looks like paint - maybe this was Andy Warhol's personal copy? [Joke!]) and 'Paul Thomas' written very small on the back at the top. There are no splits in the seams or the spine and the spine can be easily read.
Disc: I have played this through so will describe both the visual and audio condition below:
Visual: Numerous marks and surface scuffs on both sides.
Audio: Plays A LOT better than it looks. There are crackles, which are to be expected from 49 year old album, and these are mostly between tracks and in the run on/run off grooves and never cause a problem during tracks (as all the tracks are quite loud and full sounding these minor crackles do not affect the overall sound). There are a couple of light clicks during 'Lady Godiva's Operation' and 'Here she comes now' (one louder single pop during HSCN as well) on side 1 and a couple of light clicks halfway through 'Sister Ray' but none of these things affect your enjoyment of this classic album. There are no skips - and i use a very light SME arm.
