Description
This is the first, impossibly rare issue from 1971 on Atlantic red and plum center labels with Porky and Pecko Duck engraved in the run outs. There are several variations of this label but this version with Peter Grant production credit, which was later removed, is apparently the earliest and rarest. From the research I've done there are several other differences that set this label apart from other early red/plum labels.
1- "Under licence from Atlantic Recording Corpn., U.S.A." is above the white stripe on the red segment rather than inside it as on other versions. 2- Under the track listing, only "Kinney Music Ltd" is credited, later issues have Superhype Music INC credited also. 3- "LED ZEPPELIN" is printed in bold text in the bottom plum segment where on later releases it is Printed in larger, standard text in the red segment below the four symbols. 4- Has an executive production credit for Peter Grant below Jimmy Page's name which was later removed, apparently at Jimmy's request.
The sleeve is also the correct early issue with matt finish, later ones apparently have a shinier finish.
Good quality examples of this record have sold for over £300 but unfortunately this one would be best added to your collection for its extreme rarity rather than its audiophile sound quality. It does play through on both sides without skipping but does have surface noise in the quieter parts. There are hairlines on each side as is usually the case with records of this age but unfortunately there is also a bad looking scratch on each side that I have pictured. These do cause a click when the needle passes over them but I've heard worse on new records.
The sleeve has wear, the spine being in a particularly worn state but is still quite nice.
The inner sleeve is a generic, period poly lined one as the correct one was missing when it came into my possession. I'm guessing the original owner put it into this instead of the card picture sleeve for protection when new and mislaid the original.
Please study the pictures as they will give more details and provide an important part of the description. Don't hesitate to contact me if you want any further information and don't forget to check out my other listings.
All my records will be sent in proper packaging designed specifically to protect the sleeve during transit and not just stuck in a jiffy bag or bubble wrap as often happens with some sellers.
INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS: The advertised postage cost is the worse case scenario and could be cheaper for your country, I will only ever charge the actual cost and always combine shipping.
I have marked the listing as "No Returns" but obviously I will accept returns if you feel the item is misdescribed upon receipt as I wish to protect my long standing good reputation as an ebay seller.
