Very rare Kogan - Lalo : Symphonie Espagñol - 10" mono

I started collecting LPs in 1959 and CDs in 1982. None of my family show any interest in my extensive collection of SXL, SB, SAX, ASD etc., so I hope these well cared for records, some bought the month of issue, will go to good homes.
All records will be cleaned, played, graded and placed in a new inner, together with the original.

These records have been played on good equipment from the start and for the last 35 years on my Michell GyroDec with Denon DL-305 cartridge.

GRADING

NM - I only use this if I know the record has only been played two or three times or is in near perfect condition.

EX+ - Most of the records will fall into this category. They will have excellent playing surfaces. Some may have the odd mark, mostly non-sounding, but this will be noted in the description. But, however well records are looked after, small groups of ticks do occur, usually invisible to the naked eye. These, again, will be noted in the description. And, after all, they only remind you that these are records and not CDs!

EX - These records will play extremely well but may have more faults than EX+, again noted in the description.

VG - These records will play well but will have more faults than the above, and will have to be of a desirable or rare nature, and almost certainly MONO.

Lalo - Symphonie Espagñol Kogan - PCO/Bruck 33C 1059 - MONO
1956
This was made in 1956, before the stereo era. Kogan recorded it 4 years later with the same orchestra but a different conductor (SAX 2329). This record was made in GB for release only in Africa, hence the Nairobi sticker, and hence its rarity. I have only known of one other copy.


Record - Visually, NM. Audio - No scratches or marks but quite a few clicks and pops on Side 1. Side 2 is much better. Band 1, and to a lesser extent, band 2, verges on EX. I have cleaned the record 4 times in the 35 years I have owned it (yes, I am someone who makes a note of such things) and it gets better each time. Last time I thought there was quite a bit of distortion. This time it was down to about six chords. So, perhaps it is something else? I suspect it will get even better with another clean. I may do this and leave a note. As it is, I would still put it at VG+. The sound is very clear and the surfaces very good. Of interest to collectors and Kogan enthusiasts.
Follow up. I have now cleaned the disc a further twice and can happily report that it now plays very, very well. There are still odd bits of crackle but they are now a fraction of what they were. Who knows what might happen after further cleaning. The violin is full bodied and well forward, but the orchestra, set further back, sounds pretty good too. I had wondered if the original equipment it was originally played on had a stylus pressure of more than the 1-2 grams we are used to today, therefore causing this crackle, but I am not convinced. I hope this helps.
