Description
Incredibly rare and collectable 1969 release of the first significant David Bowie LP, on the Philips label. Despite featuring
Space Oddity and support artists Rick Wakeman, John Lodge, Herbie Flowers and Mick Ronson the album flopped- hence
its rarity. It is, however, a fascinating and well-produced LP showing Bowie at an interesting transitional stage. It was later
re-issued by RCA as Space Oddity. The colour gatefold sleeve features on its front a photo montage of Bowie with Hungarian
artist Victor Vasarely's work "CTA 25Neg" (this is often known as the Vasarely sleeve). The back features George Underwood's
drawing "The Depth of The Circle". The centre spread features all the lyrics.
The LP has been in my posession since purchase in 1969 and has been kept carefully in a vinyl sleeve. The vinyl is in immaculate
condition with no visible flaws and plays superbly. The sleeve is fully intact with no splits. There is some slight scuffing towards
the top of the inside of the gatefold with the owner's name "Jules" just visible in biro in the same area. There is no marking on the
black and silver Philips labels on the record.
This album is often known as Man of Words Man of Music although nothing to that affect appears on the sleeve.
It is very rarely that this item apears for sale.
