Description

Bennie Moten (1894-1935) led a celebrated jazz orchestra in Kansas City that was popular in the 1920s and early 1930s throughout the Midwest and beyond.  He played piano in what may be called an early manifestation of the boogie-woogie style. The band was the nucleus for the Count Basie Orchestra formed in 1936, a year after Moten's death.  This Victor features "Justrite," recorded September 6, 1928 and "Trouble in Mind," recorded the following day.   Some areas of needle stress, but plays without incident.  Condition V++
