ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome LP from Westminster (WL 5120, heavy US pressing, red/silver script label, mono – no stereo edition exists, sturdy cardboard jacket) features the legendary Vienna Konzerthaus Quartet in a sublime reading of Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 12 in E-flat Major Op. 127, first issued in 1954.
At this time, the Vienna Konzerthaus Quartet consisted of 1st violinist Anton Kamper, 2nd violinist Karl M. Titze, violist Erich Weiss, and cellist Franz Kwarda. Almost 60 years on, theirs remains a landmark in the Beethoven discography, one of the great LPs of Op. 127.
Incidentally, there are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, provided in English only, by Irving Kolodin. The lovely cover art is uncredited.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is some fraying to the laminate along the open edge of the jacket, a 3” seamsplit to the lower edge, slight bumping at corners, a small bit of writing to the rear panel, and mild discoloration. However, there are no bends, other seamsplits, or other defects, and the album remains perfectly solid, bright, and extremely attractive. Overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Visually, there are spindle trails and some mostly non-sounding marks. In termas of sound, Although the surfaces are not CD silent, really the playback remains quite fine. However, those requiring flawless or near-MINT surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
