This beautiful and very rare LP from Westminster (WL 5094, US pressing, red/silver script label – ED1, mono) features one of the great recordings of Schubert’s lovely Octet in F Major D. 803 (Op. 166), that by the famous Vienna Konzerthaus Quartet and colleagues, a performance set down in the warm acoustics of Vienna’s Konzerthaus circa 1950.

The Vienna Konzerthaus Quartet was comprised of:

Anton Kamper (1st violin)

Karl M. Titze (2nd violin)

Erich Weiss (cello)

Franz Kwarda (cello).

Joining them on this memorable occasion were :

Leopold Wlach (clarinet)

Karl Oehlberger (basson)

Gottfried von Freiberg (horn)

Josef Hermann (double-bass)

There are excellent liner notes by the distinguished critic Irving Kolodin on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only. The striking front cover art is uncredited.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is edgewear, more so at corners, as well as minor shelfwear and discoloration. However, there are no seamsplits, owners' markings, bends, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, and highly attractive in appearance – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is enjoyable. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
