Description
Vincent Lopez and his Casa Lopez Orchestra play Donald Lindley's modernistic "Rhythm of the Day" on Okeh (TT) 40586. It's a hot arrangement with a couple of really good trumpet solos, prominent tuba and banjo throughout, and some high-flying trumpet ensemble parts. (I mention the latter because I sold a test of Roger Wolfe Kahn's performance of this tune, which went unissued on 78 because of some cracked high notes in the trumpet section.) On the flip side, they play "Song of the Flame." It's straight dance.
