Description

In this auction I am offering another of the best items I have unearthed in my clearing out thus far, and it may well be one of the rarest items too.  This is a 3-record, complete 78 rpm album.   It’s been sitting in a cabinet, never played & never touched, for so long I no longer remember where or when I got it.  I do remember putting it in the record cabinet when I moved into my house in 1971 – 40 years ago.  It’s been there ever since. It’s very rare to find this No. 115 album at all, not to mention all three of the 78 rpm records that it holds intact, and in this excellent condition.  I have read that it was produced by Decca in 1940, but I don’t see a date on it.  It’s a collector’s dream.  The records are not cracked, chipped or broken. I haven’t had a player that adapts to the 78rpm speed for years and years, but I know lots of you collectors still do.

·       The cover has a facsimile of Ms Dietrich’s distinctive autograph. At the bottom of the cover, the copy reads “MARLENE DIETRICH – NEW UNIVERSAL STAR . IN A COLLECTION OF SONGS FROM HER NEW UNVERSAL PICTURES, AND HER OTHER FAVORITES.

Record 1, Side 1 – “I’ve Been In Love Before” from new Universal Picture SEVEN SINNERS (made in 1940)

Record 1, Side 2 – You Do Something To me by Cole Porter

Record 2, Side 3 – “You’ve Got That Look” from new Universal Picture DESTRY RIDES AGAIN (made in 1939)

Record 2, Side 4 – “You Go To My Head”, Victor Young & his Orchestra

Record 3, Side 5 – “Falling in Love Again”, from UFA Picture THE BLUE ANGEL (made in 1930)

Record 3, Side 6 – “The Boys in the Backroom”, from new Universal Picture DESTRY RIDES AGAIN, (made in 1939)

CONDITION:  Very good.  Examine the photos carefully for yourself to discern the condition.  This is what I see:  The red spine is tight and not dog-eared, split or torn.  There is edgewear around the periphery of the front of the album and some scuffmarks front and back. I took 2 pictures of the inside of the cover to show you the marks around the edges there & the name of a person who once owned the album is inscribed in red ink inside in 2 places. The records themselves look fine.

Please take time to look at the other things I’m listing for auction this week.  You will find a continually changing list of eclectic items I think many of you will find interesting.  Everything is vintage or antique, right out of the attic, the closets, the drawers or my diverse collections.  “I must downsize, I must downsize, I really must …”:>)
