DESCRIPTION: vintage CHAMPION RECORD “Electrograph”, red and gold label, Champion Records, Richmond, Ind. Side one (15829-A) song is “Barnacle Bill the Sailor”, (Robison-Luther), Carson Robison, old time Comic Singin-Fiddle-Guitar & Harmonica Acc. Side two (15829-B). “Nigger Loves A Watermellon” (Cox). Luke Baldwin, Old Time Comic Singin Guitar & Harmonic Acc. Champion Records, Ind. Looks like an early Champion Record printing to me.

NOTE: According to the historians, At the time of this record, believed to be in 1929, Bill Cox aka Luke Baldwin recorded this obviously racist song (Nigger Loves a Watermelon), with the blessing of the KKK. Cox continued to record records, later falling out of his recording career and and discovered by a folklorist historian in 1965 living in an abandoned chicken Koop. Interestingly, the side one song of Barnacle the Sailor became Bluto’s theme song in the first 1933 Popeye cartoon, and was also the song in the earlier Talkitoon with the budding caricature of Betty Boop.

Measurements:   Record measures approximately 9 7/8th inches in diameter.

Date: not sure but looks like 1920s. Please use your own knowledge when dating this record as I am not an expert in this area.

Condition: Used. Looks to be in good condition to me. Plays on both side without interruption, skips, or jumps. No cracks. No chips. Please use your own judgement when determining condition.
