Vintage Japanese Minky Momo soundtrack record. Minky Momo is notorious in the anime community for allegedly being cursed. The series originally had a merchandise license with toy manufacturer Popy, however when Popy was bought by Bandai it was decided to discontinue the shows merchandise in favor of more popular Kamen Rider toys. In reaction to this the production staff and writers had the Magical Girl killed midway through the series; being hit a truck carrying Kamen Rider merchandise. Allegedly when this episode aired there was an earthquake warning that followed soon after. When the series finale was aired on May 1983, it was the same day as Sea of Japan earthquake. When the series was rebroadcast in the mid 1990's the finale once again aired on the day of a natural disaster; the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake, one of the deadliest natural disasters in Japanese history. Is Minky Momo cursed? Probably not. is the record cursed? Definitely not; however it is a curiosity for fans of anime and a great gift for fans of Magical Girls and urban legends.
