Vintage vinyl Maria Kumagai at the Rodgers organ.
SR 1001 OOP RARE MINT.
The Japanese keyboardist who flourished in the 1970s in the US and England. She learned piano in her native country, but fell in love with the sound of the American theatre organ. She came to San Francisco to study and perform.
She made only four LPs, all out of print and rare.
This was her first, recorded on a Rodgers theatre organ installed in her apartment! She is an excellent player.
After about ten years of touring, she returned to Tokyo on "family business" and was never seen again as a musician. She seems to have been a traditional Japanese woman- except for that apartment organ- so the family business may have been to care for an elderly relative.
