Vinyl 5 LP Box Louis Armstrong Hot Five Seven Savoy Ballroom 1926-28

Louis Armstrong with his Hot Five, Hot Seven and Savoy Ballroom Five, recorded 1926-1928.

Title                      Label                                 Year                       Vinyl/Cover

Satchmo 1926-1928    Joker SM 3742-46     1981                       NM/NM

I have not found another instance of this on vinyl or CD. I bought this box back in the 80's somewhere. Using the album numbers I've found that the five LP's here were released individually during the 70's, each named after a song contained on them. The individual labels are dated 1975. The box is dated 1981.

Albums SM3742-46 were released as:

Muskrat Ramble

Irish Black Bottom

Potato Head Blues

Savoy Blues

West End Blues

General

I am selling the bulk of my personal vinyl collection, mostly in lots. I have grouped similar or related artists together, but I'm limiting lot size to ten or so and many lots are related to each other, so check them all out. I am, by design, grouping common items with rare based on relationship, so please don't ask about cherry picking the better items. The object is many LP's at minimal shipping, and I believe the pricing is more than reasonable. I will combine shipping on multiple purchases.

Item details

I will only include track info on rare pieces. You can find the common stuff easily enough. I'll give you individual label and serial number (most of these don't have IPC codes), ratings for vinyl and cover, and make general comments by individual album or artist relationships between albums and so on.

I don't know much about identifying older vs. newer editions beyond the obvious observation of label color changes or knowing if I bought an LP near the original release date as opposed to10 years later. I'll state what seems obvious and feel free to ask about specifics beyond what info I give you in the listing. Also check in on inserts if I don't mention them. I might have bought it used and never new it existed.

Condition ratings

About 75% of these I bought new. I never stacked albums on a turntable and never left them out of their jackets, even as a teenager ….... really! They've always been stored vertical bookcase style and I've always been good about changing needles. So the worst it gets is background noise from many playings as opposed to scratches picked up from poor handling.

The remaining 25% that I bought used, depending on how rare it was, could vary in condition from like new to pretty bad shape and I'll rate them accordingly.

My ratings for vinyl are as follows:

NM Near Mint. I bought it new. Played it once or twice. Speaks for itself.

EX Excellent. Played a handful of times. Vinyl is black and shiny. Visual marks are typically paper scuffs from the jacket. Rarely an audible defect of any kind, and overall a quiet unworn surface.

EX+ would be near perfect but for one or two probably inaudible but visible blems like paper scrapes that prevent me from rating it NM.

EX- is a new looking quiet surface with a higher number of blems, possibly one or two minor audible tics.

VG Very Good. Played several times but no serious marks, no rough scratches. Minor tics or pops. Vinyl may not be perfectly black and shiny. A little dullness to the finish from more plays. Little or no background noise in quiet moments.

A typical VG+ would be a newer looking quieter surface with a few audible tics.

A VG- would have no serious marks but enough minor marks or general wear to create a perceptible amount of noise during quiet spots.

GD Good. Well played and/or overall noisy from lots of small marks, tics and pops, maybe even a skip or two, but still an enjoyable listen. This is probably something vintage that I bought used and couldn't find a better copy.

GD+ has an ugly overall appearance but without serious individual marks.

GD- should be replaced with a better copy! It's only here because it's rare or has a connection to the rest of the lot.

My ratings for jackets:

NM Speaks for itself

EX No folds or scratches. Finish is glossy. No missing/worn surface or discoloration. Minor marks only. Perhaps an otherwise NM with a cutout mark.

VG Folded corner, finish worn away, disc ring, cutout mark, small amount of hand writing. Age related fading or spotting. Non original or missing inner sleeve. Missing inserts, booklet, etc. No serious scrapes, scratches or tears. No broken edges.

GD Broken edges, tears, tape, lots of hand writing, but still performs it's function.
