Estimated Condition of This Record: "Very Good +" Vinyl is more like "excellent", with a few light scuffs, but sleeve has general wear and has spine damage, although the lettering and catalogue no is still legible. Some sellotape residue present down edges. Vinyl is comfortably better than the sleeve. There is a name written on the sleeve & label..

Definition of Condition as used throughout the pre-owned vinyl market:
Mint
The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
Excellent
The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
Very Good
The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Good
The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
Fair
The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
Poor
The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
Bad
The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

The original release had stamped matrix numbers in the dead wax. All other versions with this cover are counterfeits (with etched matrix numbers). This one has etched numbers!
The US Mercury album was counterfeited (see The Man Who Sold The World) in the early 1970s after Bowie became popular. It was possible for a potential buyer to choose between the official RCA reissue (in yet another cover, see The Man Who Sold The World) and the widely distributed counterfeit.
The following visual indicators can be used to confirm an original US Mercury LP:
• The matrices in the runout (the space between the label and the grooves) are machine stamped (the counterfeits are hand etched).
• The space between the final lyric line of The Supermen and the cartoon bubble "Oh By Jingo" on the back cover is approximately the height of a line of text, while on the counterfeits the space is notably wider.

I am in the process of listing several hundred LPs & 45's which are part of my original mid 1970s / early 1980s 'Midnite Rambler Disco' Playlist Collection. All of this vinyl has been safely stored in a dry cupboard for the last thirty years or so, after I swopped my disco days for a proper job!
All records have been in my family's possession since being purchased new.
