I have a subscription to Vinyl Me, Please, and this was the record issued during the month of November 2015. You must be a member in order to order this vinyl! It's a great classic rock album and mastered on a lovely purple and white marbled vinyl, but I don't need it in my collection. So I'm selling the brand new reissued album that was sourced from the original analog tapes, and the 12" x 12" art and custom cocktail recipe is included. This will be shipped in its the original packaging.

The second album by Black Sabbath isn’t just a classic, it’s a rite of passage…an album that must be reckoned with regardless of whether or not it’s embraced. ‘Paranoid’ sliced itself into a Vietnam-era landscape and defined the heavy metal genre in the process. It’s impossible to grasp the full context of the album listening to it in 2015, but what is possible is to recognize the magic concocted by four young men in a London studio, likely unaware they were creating one of the greatest albums of all-time.

Why this record?
A lot of things happened in 1970. The Kent State shootings, Solzhenitsyn winning the Nobel Prize for Literature, the beginning of Doonesbury, the Non-Proliferation Treaty going into effect, and the last quarter of the Vietnam War kicking off with the invasion of Cambodia, to name a few. Counterculture was the new kitsch and there was no better spokes group to take center stage than Black Sabbath.
When they stampeded onto the scene with their self-titled debut in February of that year it looked like things were about to change in a big way musically, and that became abundantly clear 8 months later when their sophomore album Paranoid was released. This was the solidification of heavy metal and one of the many albums which, looking back, was so much bigger than music. It was one of the loudest voices of one of the loudest and most necessary generations. It was a rallying point for the disillusioned and desperate youth looking for something to lose themselves in besides the headlines. It was rebellion in its rawest musical form…and it was so damn fun.
You don’t just listen to Black Sabbath if you like heavy metal. You listen to Black Sabbath because it’s a rite of passage into the dark cellars of music history…when sex, drugs & rock ‘n’ roll weren’t ironic. When it hadn’t already all been done before. We picked this album because you need to listen to it every once in awhile for the rest of your life. It really is that simple. It’s one of the most important albums in modern music history and it somehow keeps getting better every time we listen to it. Play it, and play it often, and play it loud.
