Description
This auction is for two 78 rpm records pressed in England on the His Masters Voice label. They are both pianoforte solos played by Vladimir Pachmann. They are Chopin pieces as follows:
(1) Record No. 1302. One side is Etude in G Flat Major, OP. 10, No. 5. The other side has two cuts: (a) Prelude in B Minor, OP. 28 No. 6 (b) Mazurka in G Major in G Major, OP 67, No. 1. The original owner wrote the date 6/47 in ink on the label of the second side.
(2) Record No. 761. One side is Waltz in D Flat Major, OP. 64, No. 1. The other side is Waltz in D Flat Major, OP. 70, No. 1. The original owner wrote the date 15/4/47 (April 14, 1947) on both sides of this record, and scribbled it over on one of the sides.
Inspected visually, the records look great! There are no scratches, skuff marks or even fingerprints. They retain most if not all of the original gloss. I played two of the sides. The signal is clear and strong, with a little more background surface noise than I would have expected from records that looked almost new. I conclude that the original owner handled them very carefully, but did play them a number of times.
I have shown pictures of all four labels. These were hard to take. If I exposed it so that the gold writing on the red background was readable, then the picture of Nipper listening to the gramophone looked pale and wiped out. The exposures I ended up using were a compromise. Only one of the three labels has Nipper and the gramophone in full color. The other three show the picture in sepia tones.
The records will be mailed from Canada. Buyers from the United Kingdom and other overseas locations should note that I have set the eBay shipping calcular to show the rate for airmail. Surface mail to overseas destinations is available at about half the cost, but it can be very slow.
