Dead Wax / Matrix Numbers

• Side A (Penny Lane): 7XCE 18416-2

• Side B (Strawberry Fields Forever): 7XCE 18415-2

These are correct for first pressing UK copies. Early pressings were -1 or -2 cuts. This copy shows -2 on both sides, which is still within the 1967 first issue run.

Sleeve

• Front: Photo of the band in a gold frame (designed by Tony Barrow Productions).

• Back: “Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane” with childhood photos of the band.

• This sleeve design was unique to the UK; other countries often had generic company sleeves.

• Condition: noticeable creasing, edge wear, and light staining, which will affect collector value but it’s still highly desirable because the sleeve is often missing.

Historical Significance

• This single is regarded as one of the Beatles’ finest double A-sides.

• “Penny Lane” and “Strawberry Fields Forever” were both recorded during the Sgt. Pepper sessions but were released early as a standalone single.

• It’s notable because it was the first Beatles single since 1963 not to reach #1 in the UK, being held off by Engelbert Humperdinck’s Release Me.

• Today, it’s considered one of the most important rock singles ever released.

Condition

• Vinyl:

• Labels show spindle wear and scratching around the center.

• Condition around G to VG.
