Description
Here is TED LEWIS AND HIS BAND, in unique readings of "WABASH BLUES" and "FAREWELL BLUES."
The already remarkable jazz line-up (Muggsy Spanier, cornet; George Brunies, trombone) is enhanced immeasurably by the presence of FRANK TESCHEMACHER on clarinet. Tesch sounds amazing on both sides, especially his duets with Ted Lewis (also on clarinet), which must be heard to be believed. I think this is his only recorded outing with a commercial band. The rest of his sides are small group hot jazz.
Though issued in 1929 on normal black shellac, this particular Columbia 2029-D is a "Royal Blue" pressing from 1933. It's in lovely EE- condition.
