Roots Reggae/Lovers Rock/One Drop Side 1. Burn Babylon (Burning version) Side 2. Jah Golden Pen (Burning dub)

Sylford Walker grew up on Gold Street in Kingston's South Side and came through the tough 70s dancehall circuit with a voice steeped in raw roots reggae. His recording debut came in 1975 for producer Joe Gibbs with 'Burn Babylon', a track that set his name alongside the era's fiercest firestarters. While he would later work with Glen Brown, it was this first single that distilled the struggles of ghetto life into a militant cry, born of the same hardships many Jamaicans endured at the time. Walker's path reflects the turbulence of that decade, his music carrying both the urgency of survival and the poise of a singer determined to be heard; this Studio 16 reissue calls attention to both, and is backed by the burning 'Jah Golden Pen' on the B.
